Big golf tournament at Belterra Casino in southern Indiana this weekend! The Reds Community Fund always puts us up in a nice room at the hotel, but this year we’re camping! Who woulda thunk it?
It’s 92 degrees and so, so humid, but here we are setting up a campsite. At home, we would NEVER say, “Honey, it’s really hot and humid out, possibly the hottest day of the summer, so hows about we go outside, build a fire and sit around it?”
“Sure! Let’s do it. And while we’re at it, we can swat bugs away and try to keep them out of our food!”
But here we are, loving every minute of it. The campground is right on highway 156, close to the Ohio River, and only a mile or so from the hotel/casino and golf tournament. We have spot number 10, way in the back, with a nice big tree to provide a bit of shade. We mistakenly thought we’d have a view of the river. It’s across the highway and impossible to see from here, although we can hear the barges going past.
Bob rolled our inadequate fire ring away and exchanged it for a better one a few spots down!
We have found that steaks cooked on the coals from a good fire taste even better than steaks cooked over charcoal. So I think we can leave our little Weber grill home in the future! We used our new 22 1/2” replacement grill and laid it over the fire, with fabulous results.
Our little ThermaCELL mosquito repellant was a terrific gadget to have on hand.
For some reason mosquitos are always attacking me, and they don’t when this baby gets fired up. Highly recommended! (Thanks to brother Yale for his suggestion years ago!)
