A great day out on the water! We started the day at Crooked Lake, where we met up with Bob’s friend Zappa from Harbor Springs. We rented a boat and jet ski and started off. The water in Michigan lakes is so crystal clear we could see all the way down to the bottom.
We circled Crooked Lake, then took the Crooked River through locks down into Burt Lake. The locks are an amazing feat of engineering, and we really enjoyed the feeling of dropping down to the level of the other lake. We held onto ropes to keep the boat and jet ski stable as the water flowed out, then the wall rose and off we went, down the river. We were going at a leisurely pace, and saw some gorgeous homes and some not-so-gorgeous homes! There are lots of people of all types in the world, aren’t there?
At Burt Lake we dropped anchor at a big sand bar and took turns on the jet ski. I wanted to stay on it all day long, because I just loved the speed and freedom. No obstacles or buoys in my way — just a huge body of water waiting to be explored.
Lunch at Hoppies…we got lost on the way! Lucky for us we had my “Around Me” APP on the iPhone, and we actually followed the directions around the lake to the bar. Wow! It was worth the struggle…delicious whitefish from Lake Michigan. Great service, too. The beers were ice cold and the food was delicious.
This was a day well spent.
