Glimmerglass State Park
Our time in the Adirondacks was coming to a close as we drove the scenic route through the mountains. A Twitter follower suggested a stop-over at High Falls Gorge, after he saw how much we enjoyed AuSable Chasm. The gorge was much shorter than AuSable Chasm, so we made a short stop for the hike. Highly recommended!
We passed through the High Peaks region, with gorgeous Lake Placid. It would have been terrific to spend a little time there. The village is so proud of its Olympic history, and there appear to be lots of interesting things to see. But we couldn’t find a convenient place to park the rig!! So on we went.

I still can’t get over how gorgeous the Adirondack region is. Everywhere we turned there was a another view to make me gasp.
Outside of Keene, New York, we found a rural park along the highway. We decided to park the Airstream and take a few “glamour shots”:
Our drive to Glimmerglass took us on some true country backroads! This farmer sure took his sweet time.
My heart did a little boom, boom, boom when I saw two other Airstreams in tiny Glimmerglass State Park. It’s so unusual to see other Airstreams even in big state parks, so this was a real treat. Of course I had to immediately check them out and snap pictures.
Mary’s husband works from “home” and they are full-timers, so he came up with this smart dinette conversion to house two monitors.
Glimmerglass (isn’t that a beautiful name?) is situated on Lake Otsego, although the campsites are not lakefront. There is a nice swimming beach and beach house with an enormous parking lot for day use. We rode our bikes to check out the area, and enjoyed the fact that it’s all FLAT so we didn’t have to ride any hills.
Our site, number 16, had electric hookups. It was wooded, fairly level, and spacious!
As Bob said, “According to ‘the lady’, this is the oldest covered bridge in the United States”

So glad you saw some of the Real New York. This state is so much more than the just City. Tractors on the “main roads” was the norm for me growing up.
What a beautiful area! I never was sure if I wanted to visit New York state but this is making me want to take the journey.
The Adirondack region should be on your list! Every spot we saw was beautiful, and it’s cheap to camp when you don’t pay for hook-ups.

Hey small world, no I didn’t see that one. I’ll have to dig into your archives. Oh boy do the falls look neat. We are headed to Yellowstone next month for the first time, should be great scenery. Tell Bob we miss him in the mornings.
